Responses of pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) to different ırrigation frequencies and water amount: growth, yield and fruit characteristics
Field trials were carried out to evaluate yield and yield components of pepper under different irrigation regimes using a novel irrigation method, water pillow, (WP) in 2004 and 2005. In this study effects of three different irrigation intervals with WP (7, 9 and 11 day) were compared with furrow irrigation (FT) method in which the plants were irrigated with 5-day intervals. For each irrigation treatment different applied amount of water (irrigation from one or two side of plant) were studied. The highest fruit yield was obtained from the treatment WP7.1S (7 day-irrigation intervals from single side of plant) with 41.58 t ha-1. Both the irrigation frequencies and applied amount of water did not affect the mean fruit weight, width, length, stem and leaves fresh & dry weight of the plant significantly when compared to the control group. Water productivity with this new irrigation method was improved without decreasing the crop yield.
