Mikrobiyolojik analizlerin, gıdalarda rutin olarak uygulanmaya başlamasından bu yana bilim adamları, denemelerde kullanılan metotları kolay uygulanabilir duruma getirmeye veya hızlı metotlarla geliştirmeye çaba harcamaktadırlar. Klasik yöntemlere oranla daha elverişli, duyarlı, spesifik ve doğru sonuçlar alınabilecek hızlı ve otomasyona uygun yöntemlere olan ilgi, son 20 yılda giderek artmıştır. Bu hızlı metotlardan birisi olan immunomanyetik ayırma (IMS) yöntemi, son zamanlarda oldukça dikkati çekmektedir. Bu derlemede IMS yöntemi, prensipleri, uygulamaları ve araştırma gereksinimleri üzerinde durulmuştur.
