Seroprevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection in Afyon region

Objective: Aim of this study was to determine incidence of the H.pylori infection in various age and risk groups living in Afyon. Methods: We applied a questionnaire form to healthy people and people at high risk group and who complained of dispepsia (158 female, 279 male, total 437) of different ages and sexes. Serum samples were obtained for the investigation of H.pylori IgG by microELISA. They were separated into 7 groups according to their ages and they were also grouped according to their professions. We detected H.pylori IgG antibody in sera of cases and used Virotech kits by means of ELISA for this procedure. Results: Average incidence was found 79.7% while this value was higher for workers employed in meat-processing areas and lower for children. women had a higher rate of positivity (84.8%). incidence of H. pylori IgG were 27.3% for 0-10, 57.1% for 11-20, 83.6% for 21-30, 88.8% for 31-40, 83,6% for 41-50 and 82.9% for 51-60 age group and 82.3% for over 60 years. 37.6% of cases had dyspeptic complaints and there was no signiflcant correlation between these complaints and H. pylori IgG positivity. Conclusion: Average incidence is 79.7% in the study group while this value is higher for workers employed in meat-processing areas.
