Radyasyon enteritinde lifli besinlerin koruyucu etkisi

Protective effects of fiber enriched diet in radiation enteritis

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of both the water soluble and water insoluble fiber enriched diet on bacterial translocation and investigate the histopathological changes in the intestines, in a rat model of radiation enteritis. Methods: Following irradiation, with a single dose of 1100 cGy into abdomen 45 rats were randomised into three groups. The first group intook Standard fıber-free diet, the second group consumed water insoluble fiber enriched diet and the third group intook water soluble fiber enriched diet for seven days. Results: in group 2 height of intestinal villi and the wall thickness of small intestines were higher than the other groups. Conclusion: The water insoluble fiber enriched diet may prevent the effects of radiation on the intestines.
