Atypical Endocrinal Dermatosis of Dogs, Alopecia X

Alopecia X is a type of dermatosis seen in young adult dogs and characterized by cessation of haircycle, high progesterone, low androgen, variable estrogen and mild increase in cortisol, withoutinflammation and itching. Alaskan Malamute, Chow-Cow, Keeshond, Norwegian Elkhound,Pomeranian and Samoyed breeds show more susceptibility and susceptibility to the disease.Clinical findings may occur as psychogenic as well as dermatological findings. Alopecia in areasother than head and distal extremities, bilateral symmetrical alopecia, hyperpigmentation, and post traumatic hair regrowth are important clinical findings. Anamnesis, biochemical parameters anddermatohistopathological findings are basics for diagnosis. In the differential diagnosis, hyperadrenocorticism, hypothyroidism and congenital alopecia should be considered. Thetreatment includes castration, melatonin, mitotane and trilostane applications. In recent years, microneedling method used in human medicine and cosmetics industry is important. In conclusion,it is noteworthy that more effective diagnostic approaches are needed in order to develop treatmentoptions that can be applied according to the course of the disease.
