Hemolytic anemia and hyperbilirubinemia after enteral administration of methylen blue for the treatment of methemoglobinemia: A case report
When an infant presents with cyanosis which is not associated with respiratory distress and who has normal respiratory and circulatory system findings, methemoglobinemia should always be considered. Here we report a 45-day old infant with methemoglobinemia after the use of a local anesthetic agent (prilocaine) for circumcision and the onset of hemolytic anemia and hyperbilirubinemia after treatment with methylene blue.
