Comparison of antiseptic and disinfectant susceptibility in methicillin-susceptible and resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains
In this study, the susceptibility of 50 methicillin-susceptible (MS) and 50 methicillin-resistant (MR) Staphylococcus aureus (SA) strains for three antiseptics [70 % isopropyl alcohol (IPA), 10 % povidon-iodine, 10 % povidon-iodine/ethanol] and one disinfectant (house bleach) was investigated. It was found that there was no siginificant differences between the resistance of MSSA and MRSA strains to 10 % povidon-iodine and 10 % povidon-iodine/ethanol (p>0.05). Significant higher resistance in MRSA strains to 70 % IPA (p<0.01) and to house bleach (p<0.001) were detected comparing with MSSA strains.
