A case of acute gastroenteritis caused by hafnia alvei
Hafnia alvei is a Gram negative bacillus in the family Enterobacteriaceae. The microorganism is found in sewage, soil, the large intestines of humans and can colonize the oropharynx in humans. This bacterium was identified as an enteric pathogen in 1991. Since then, several cases of enterocolitis caused by H.alvei have been reported throughout the world, frequently in Spain. In this study, a case of acute gastroenteritis caused by this microorganism was presented. Probably this is the first case reported from Turkey.
