Botulinum toksini ve dermatolojide kullanımı

Botulinum toksini Clostridium botulinum tarafından üretilen ve nöromüsküler iletimi engelleyen bir ajandır. Şaşılık, blefarospazm ve distonik bozuklukların tedavisinde 25 yıldır terapötik amaçla kullanılmaktadır. Yüz çizgi ve kırışıklık tedavisinde yeni bir kullanım alanının keşfedilmesiyle Botulinum toksini kozmetik amaçla kullanılmaya başlanmıştır. Bu yazıda Botulinum toksininin bakteriyolojisi, farmakolojisi ve dermatolojideki klinik kullanımı gözden geçirilerek sunulmaktadır.

Botulinum Toxin and its use in dermatology

Botulinum toxin is a neuromuscular blocking agent produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It has been used as a therapeutic agent in the treatment of strabismus and blepharospasm, and dystonic conditions for over 25 years. After the discovery of the novel use for the treatment of wrinkles and hyperfunctional lines of face, Botulinum toxin has been used to correct facial cosmetic concerns. In this article, bacteriology and pharmacology of the Botulinum toxin and its clinical use in dermatology is reviewed.
