The Relationship Between Preservice Teachers’ Spatial Abilities and Spatial Ability SelfReports
In this study, it was aimed to determine the preservice teachers' spatial ability and spatial ability selfreport levels, to evaluate them in terms of gender and department variables separately and together, and to determine the relationship between the spatial abilities of the preservice teachers, and their spatial ability selfreports. The research was designed in descriptive and correlational research patterns and conducted with 302 preservice teachers. The data was collected by "Spatial Ability Test" and "Spatial Ability Self-Report Scale". Descriptive statistics, Two-Way Analysis of Variance and Pearson Correlation Coefficient were used to analyze obtained data. In the study, the spatial ability mean scores of the preservice teachers were found moderate, and although the main effect of gender variable on the spatial ability mean scores was significant, the main effect of department variable and the joint effect of gender and department variables together on the spatial ability mean scores, were not regarded meaningful. Moreover, the spatial ability self-report mean scores of the preservice teachers were found high, and although the main effects of gender and department variables on the spatial ability self-report mean scores were significant, the joint effect of gender and department variables on the spatial ability self-report mean scores was not significant. Moreover, it has been found that there is a positive, meaningful relationship between the spatial abilities of the preservice teachers and the spatial ability self-reports.
