Potasyum Klorür yanlış uygulanmasına bağlı ölüm: Olgu sunumu

Potasyum Klorür özellikle çocuklarda akut gastroenterit sonucu ortaya çıkan hipopotasemi tedavisinde intravenöz infüzyon yoluyla kullanılır. Hızlı verilmesi ani ölümlere neden olabileceğinden dikkatli kullanılmalıdır. Sunulan olguda potasyum klorür stajyer hemşire tarafından ateş düşürücü olduğu düşünülerek IV puşe şeklinde uygulanmış olup akut gastroenterit tedavisi gören çocuğun ani ölümüne neden olmuştur. Olgu, sağlık personeli eğitiminin önemi, tedavi amacıyla kullanılan herhangi bir etken maddenin (yanlış uygulamada) zararlı sonuçlar doğurabileceği, kullanılan ilaçların ya da etken maddelerin çok da masum olmadığı, sağlık personelinin kusur değerlendirmesinin adli tıp uygulamaları açısından önemini göstermek amacıyla sunulmuştur.

Death from potassium chloride inadverent application: Case report

Potassium chloride is used through intravenous infusion, especially for the treatment of hypopotassemia as a result of acute gastroenteritis in children. It must be used carefully because it can cause sudden death if it is administered in fast way. At the presented case; potassium chloride was applied in route of IV push with the idea that it is an antipyretic medicine by the intern nurse and it caused death of the child who underwent a treatment of acute gastroenteritis. The case is presented to show the importance of health personnel s education, that any active ingredient which is used for treatment (as a wrong application) can cause harmful results, used medicines or active ingredients are not too innocent, importance of health personnel s malpractice in terms of forensic medicine applications.
