Yönetim Bilişim Sistemleri Bölümü Öğretim Programlarının Bilgi Yönetimi Açısından Değerlendirilmesi

Bu çalışmada, Türkiye’deki üniversitelerde sayısı her yıl katlanarak artan Yönetim Bilişim Sistemleri YBS bölümlerinin öğretim programı içeriklerinin değerlendirilmesi ve elde edilen bulgular ışığında YBS alanı üzerinden yeni disiplinlerin bilgi yönetim süreçlerine etkilerinin tartışmaya açılması amaçlanmaktadır. Bununla birlikte, çalışmada bilişim odaklı disiplinler arasındaki kuvvetli bağı ve farklılıkları ortaya koyan bir literatür incelemesi yapılmıştır. YBS bilim alanın öncüsü olan, ilgili bölümlerin ilk olarak açıldığı ve bu bölümlerin tüm dünyada yaygınlaşmasına öncülük eden Amerikan üniversitelerinin öğretim programları da içerik analizi yöntemiyle incelenmiş ve Türkiye’de merkezi yerleştirme sınavı ile öğrenci alan 43 üniversitenin öğretim programları ile çalışmanın gerekli görülen bölümlerinde karşılaştırma yapılmıştır. YBS bilim alanına ilişkin elde edilen veriler, bu alanda yapılan çalışmaların diğer bilgi ve bilişim odaklı disiplinlerden farklı olmadığını göstermektedir. Bilişim odaklı diğer bilim alanlarına göre YBS’nin, daha fazla unsuru donanım, yazılım, organizasyon, insan ve prosedürler içinde barındıran, teknik ve sosyal yönü dengeli bir bilim alanı olduğu görülmektedir. Çalışmadan elde edilen verilere bağlı olarak, Türkiye’deki YBS bölümlerinin öğretim programı içeriklerinin amaçları ve yeterliğine ilişkin çıkarımlara ulaşılabilmektedir. Çalışma sonucunda, nispeten daha köklü Amerikan üniversitelerinin YBS programlarının amaçları ile ders programları arasındaki uyumun, Türkiye’deki YBS bölümlerinde bulunmadığı görülmüş ve bu konudaki eksikliklere yönelik atılması gereken adımlar hakkında önerilerde bulunulmuştur

Evaluation of the Department of Management Information Systems Curriculums from the Perspective of Information Management

In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the content of curriculums of the “Management Information Systems MIS ” departments, whose numbers in Turkish universities are increasing exponentially year by year, and evaluating and discuss, in the light of the findings, how new science fields affect the information management processes. Moreover, the literature is examined and reviewed in order to reveal how the strong connections, differences, and similarities among information-based disciplines are perceived from different perceptive. In addition, the curriculums of some departments in United States US universities, which are accepted as the pioneers of MIS departments and have led to widespread of these departments all over the world, are evaluated similarly by using content analysis and compared to those of 43 Turkish universities, when possible, that accept their students by the central university entrance exam. The findings show that MIS science field is quite similar to other information-based/information-oriented fields in terms of their scope and content. It is possible to say that MIS differentiates from other information-based disciplines that MIS is balanced both in technical and social aspects and contains more elements in terms of hardware, software, people and processes. In addition, it is possible to draw some conclusions about the purposes and qualifications of MIS departments’ curriculums in Turkish universities. Moreover, the findings show that the harmony between the purposes and the curriculum contents of MIS departments in the US universities that are relatively well-established ones is not available for those in Turkish universities. At the end of the study, some suggestions are made about how to eliminate this kind of deficiencies and how MIS departments should develop their curriculums in harmony with their purposes
