Türkiye'de Meslek Yüksekokullarının 2000'li Yıllardaki Gelişimi ve Mevcut Zorluklar

Ülkemizde yükseköğretim sistemi son yıllarda önemli bir genişlemeye tanık olmaktadır. Hem yükseköğretim kurumlarının sayısında, hem de yükseköğretim öğrenci ve öğretim elemanı sayılarında büyük artışlar gerçekleşmiştir. Bu genişleme, mesleki eğitimde de kendisini hissettirmektedir. Diğer alanlarda olduğu gibi mesleki eğitimdeki büyümenin de kalite odaklı, eğitim-istihdam ilişkisine dayalı ve sürdürülebilir olması hem kaynakların verimli kullanılması hem de mezunlardan yararlanabilme imkânlarının artması bağlamında büyük önem arz etmektedir. Özellikle ülkemizin ekonomik rekabet gücünün artırılmasında mesleki eğitimin ayrı bir önemi bulunmaktadır. Bu nedenle bu çalışmada, meslek yüksekokullarının öncelikle mevcut durumu ayrıntılı olarak ele alınmış, son yıllarda meslek yüksekokullarında eğitim kalitesini artırmaya yönelik atılmış adımlara değinilmiştir. Daha sonra meslek yüksekokullarının halen yaşadığı zorluklara değinilmiş ve bu zorlukları aşmaya dayanak teşkil edebilecek bazı çözüm önerileri sunulmuştur.

The Development of Turkish Post-Secondary Vocational Colleges in the 2000's and the Current Challenges

Higher education system in Turkey is witnessing a significant expansion in recent years. Both the number of higher education institutions and the number of higher education students as well as of academic staff have been dramatically increased. This expansion is also making itself visible in vocational education. Similar to other areas, expansion in vocational education - that is oriented toward the quality, based on the links on education-employment, and sustainable - is of great importance for both efficient use of resources as well as the increasing opportunities of taking advantage of graduates. In particular, there is a distinct importance of vocational training in improving the economic competitiveness of Turkey. Therefore, this study discusses the current situation of post-secondary vocational colleges (MYOs) in detail. It also focuses on the steps taken to improve the quality of education in vocational colleges in recent years. Next, it addresses the current challenges of the vocational colleges and provides some suggestions to overcome these challenges.
