THE MEDIATING EFFECT OF EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN POWER DISTANCE AND INNOVATIVE BEHAVIOR

This study investigates the mediating role of employee performance on the relationship between power distance and innovative behavior. The data used in the research were obtained through surveys applied to 411 employees working in 5-star hotels operating in Antalya. The hypotheses established to examine the relationship between the variables in the research were tested using the structural equation model. AMOS 22 package program was used for this and other analyzes in the research were carried out using the SPSS package program. According to the results of the analysis, it was revealed that the power distance perceived by hotel employees has a negative effect on their performance and innovative behavior. The job performances perceived by the employees have a positive effect on their innovative behavior. When the mediation effect is analyzed, it was observed that the employee performance mediates the relationships between between power distance and innovative behavior of the hotel employees. As the power distance decreases, the innovative behaviors of the employees will increase and an increase in the performance of the employees will increase the innovative behaviors. The study model is thought to contribute to the literature, since it has not been previously tested in both the tourism sector and other service sectors.
