Japan's pre and post 3/11 energy policy: Distressing lessons and blurred prospects

The scale of the challenge Japan is faced with after the triple disaster of March 11, 2011 is enormous. This paper focuses on one sphere - energy policy, which affects the entire socioeconomic and political situation at present and is to determine the country's future. The paper seeks to analyze Japan's energy policy before 2011 highlighting the aspects of risk management, asses the socio-economic costs associated with the energy crisis followed after the earthquake and tsunami, examine the options for the nation's future energy policy and discuss potential implications of Japan's changing energy policy for the international energy market.
