Buzağılarda Kimyasal Dehorning
Dehorning is an important aspect ofcow veterinary practice and it is usually performed on calves betvveen 1 yveek and 2 months of age. Iıı this study, Chemical dehorning was carried out on 22 calves bet\veen 1 week and 2 months of age using 20% solution of calcium chloride via subcutaneous injection. The injections of 2-3 ml of the solution were given under the çenter of horn bud. A circle of dry necrotic area was palpated 4-5 days after injection. Separation of the necrotic tissue and healing process completed in 6-8 weeks. The animals were observed for a minimum of 6 months for the condition of horn growth and changes occuring in the area. In the histological examiııation of the tissue samples taken 1 w e ek later from the area of intervention it was observed that the epidermis had disappeared compl.etely and a firm fibrous connective tissue proliferation rich in collagen fibrils occured in the area of dermiş and mııscle layers. Consequently, Chemical dehorning with a 20% solution of calcium chloride has been foıuıd as reliable, economic and simple technicpıe for disbudding of calves.
