Studies on the Experimental Salinomycin Toxication in Feedlot Lambs and Its Treatment
In this study. experimental salinomycin toxicosis were performed in feedlot lambs. Clinical, haematological. biochemical. electrocardiographic. pathological changes and possibility of therapy were investigated. Twenty akkaraman lambs were used as material. Salinomycin were administered to the lambs in 12 mg/kg body weight by stomach tube for 3 days to make acute toxication. Treatment was applied to 16 lambs after ciinical signs of the ıoxication appeared and four lambs left untreated as control. Clinical signs seen after toxication were anorexia. lrothing in the mouth. gnashing the teeth. frembling of the muscules. insufficientia cordis. hyperpnea. dullness in the hair and disappearance of the elasticity of the skin, in the later stages of the toxication, the animais had diftuculty in standing up. paresis and paraiysis m the fore- and back- limbs were seen. Haematological examination showed no signifıcant changes in the RBC. WBC. PCV and haemoglobin vaiues afler the development of clinical signs of the toxication. On the other hand; ALT. AST. LDH. CPK, Amilaz. Glucose and Urea vaiues increased signifıcantly after the development of the clinical signs of the toxication. Signifıcantly important decrease in the serum Ca and P were also observed afler the development of clinical signs of the toxication. Na. K. d. Mg vaiues and ALP and GGT enzyme activities were not changed signifıcantly after toxication. İn the electrocardiograph; QRS inlen als extended and or deformed. P wave disappeared. T waves «ere negative and biphasic after the development of the clinical signs of the toxication. For treatment; Ca-canal blocurs. Ca. Atropin sulphate. Vit E. Vit C and Corticosteroids were giyen. After treatment serum glycose and Ca vaiues improved. but the other paramaters did not changed signifıcantly. As a ıesult; the doses of salinomycin. which used the stimulate growth in feedlot lambs. need to be adjusted carefuliy. Because. overdoses may cause irreversible degenerations. In this study symptomatic and supportive lluid therapy had no eftect on the salinomvcine intoxicated lambs
