Covid-19 Günlerinde Fotoğraf İyileştirmeleri ve Çevrimiçi Popülerlik Arasındaki İlişkide Olumsuz Değerlendirilme Korkusunun Aracı Rolü

Fotoğraf paylaşımı sosyal ağlardaki en yaygın davranışlardan biri haline gelmiştir. Günümüzde fotoğraf tabanlı sosyal ağlar, özellikle Instagram, kullanıcı sayısını oldukça artırmıştır. Oluşturdukları profiler ile kullanıcılar paylaşım yapabilmekte, hayatlarından önemli gördükleri anları diğer kullanıcılar ile paylaşabilmektedir. Kullanıcılar bu tür platformlarda popüler olma arzusuna sahip olabilmektedir. Bu amaçla kullanıcılar, paylaştıkları fotoğraflarda çekici görünmek için çeşitli düzenlemeler ve iyileştirmeler yapmaktadır. Yapılan düzenlemelerde ve fotoğraf paylaşımında çevrimiçi popülerlik önemli bir amaçtır. Bu araştırmada kullanıcıların fotoğraflarında yaptıkları iyileştirmeler popülerllikle ilişkili olarak tanımlanmıştır. Çevrimiçi olarak popüler olmaya çalışan bireyler paylaşım yapmakta ve fotoğraflarını iyileştirmektedir. Fotoğraf paylaşımı, Nesneleştirme Kuramı bağlamında değerlendirildiğinde, bireyler, diğerlerinin bakış açılarına göre bedenlerini gözden geçirmeye zorlanmaktadır. Bu nedenle olumsuz değerlendirilme korkusu kullanıcıları fotoğraflarında düzenlemelere ve iyileştirmelere yönlendirebilmektedir. Bu yönlendirme aracılık etme olarak isimlendirilmektedir. Popülerlik ve fotoğraf iyileştirme ilişkisi, olumsuz değerlendirilme korkusu tarafından aracılanmaktadır. Araştırma tarama modelinde desenlenmiştir. Araştırma için Anadolu Üniversitesi Etik Kurulu’ndan 30.12.2020 tarihinde 72908 protokol numarası ile gerekli izinler alınmıştır. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre hem fotoğraf manipülasyonu hem de fotoğraflara yapılan yatırımların çevrimiçi popülerlik ile olan ilişkileri olumsuz değerlendirilme korkusu tarafından aracılanmaktadır. Ayrıca kadınlar popülerliği daha çok istemekte, daha çok olumsuz değerlendirilme korkusu hissetmekte, daha çok fotoğraf manipülasyonu ve yatırımı yapmaktadır. Takipçi sayısı, kullanım süreleri ve paylaşım sıklığı açısından; fotoğraf manipülasyonu ve yatırımı, çevrimiçi popülerlik ve olumsuz değerlendirilm korkusu boyutlarında anlamlı farklılıklar vardır. Covid-19 günlerinde yaşanan karantinaların, bireylerin görünüm endişelerini artırdığı düşünülmektedir. Mediating Role of Fear of Negative Evaluation Between Online Popularity and Photo Enhancement in Covid-19 Days

Photo sharing has become one of the most common behaviors in social networks. Today, photobased social networks, especially Instagram, have increased their number of users. With the profiles they create, users can share the moments they consider important from their lives with others. Users want to be popular on these platforms. For this purpose, users do various edits and enhancements to look attractive in the photos they share. In this study, photo manipulation and photo investments done by users were considered related with online popularity. Individuals trying to become popular online may enhance the photos they share. When photo sharing is considered in the context of objectification theory, it imposes individuals to monitor their own body images according to the perspectives of others. Due to that, fear of negative evaluation can also lead users to such behavior. The relationship between popularity and photo enhancement may be mediated by the fear of negative evaluation. The research was applied in survey technique in Covid-19 days and data was collected from university students, one of the most important users of social networks. The research was approved by Anadolu University Ethics Board with protocol number 72908 on 30.12.2020. According to the results of the research, both photo manipulation and photo investment’s relations with popularity are mediated by fear of negative evaluation. In addition, women do more photo manipulation and photo investment significantly. In terms of number of followers, usage times and frequency of sharing, significant difference were observed in variables; online popularity, photo manipulation, photo investment and fear of negative evaluation. The quarantines experienced during Covid-19 days are thought to increase the appearance concerns of individuals.
