PSYCHOLOGICAL CAPITAL SHORT FORM: A VALIDATION STUDY
Organizations need to value their employees more and to reveal their true potential so that they can ensure sustainable competitive advantage and adapt to changing environmental conditions. In recent years, the concept of psychological capital has emerged as a new conceptual framework to understand the value of human in his working life and to reveal his true potential. Positive psychological capital refers to the whole that comes from the combination of features such as self- efficacy, hope, resilience and optimism that can be changed and improved through experience or education. The aim of this study is to examine the reliability and validity of the 12-item short form of the psychological capital scale (PCQ-12) in Turkish context. The study was conducted with 91 administrative staff working at different positions at a university in the Marmara Region. The psychometric properties of the scale were examined by internal consistency method and confirmatory factor analysis. According to the findings obtained from the validity analysis, the fit index of the scale was found to be χ2 / df = 1.56 and the scale had a four factor structure. These factors are defined as self-efficacy, hope, resilience and optimism. In addition, other good fit indexes of the model also show that the proposed model is acceptable [GFI = 0.88, RMSEA = 0.075, CFI = 0.95, AGFI = 0.81, NFI = 0.87]. The Cronbach Alpha internal consistency method has been adopted to determine the reliability of the scale. In the reliability analysis, the internal consistency coefficient for PCQ-12 was .93. As a result, it can be said that PCQ-12 is a valid and reliable instrument that can be used to measure psychological capital. The short form of the PCI is expected to be a practical and applicable instrument to be administered in organizational life.
