George Beselitz, resim sanatının gelişimine ve değişimine bir akıma bağlı olmanın ötesinde bireysel olarak katkıda bulunan öncü ressamlardan biridir. Alman ve Batı sanatının üretken ve kural yıkıcı ressamı George Baselitz yaşamı, çok yönlülüğü, poetikası, manifestoları ve beslendiği kaynaklarla sanata yön veren sanatçılardan biridir. Alman ulusal sanatına ve neo ekspresyonizm'e yaptığı katkılar da onun sanatının bir parçasıdır. "Hiçbir ressam çalışırken motif aramaz. Bu, paradoks olurdu. Çünkü motif ressamın beynindedir, düşünen o mekanizmanın içinde." sözleriyle resim sanatının düşünme biçimleriyle olan ilgisine dikkat çeker. Böylece resim sanatının yalnızca tuvale yansıyan kısmı değil arka planında yoğun bir zihinsel hazırlık süreci olduğuna da dikkat çeker. The development and history of the art of painting can be followed through two ways: The first way is following the progress of art movements. The second one is profoundly examining artists who contributed to the change and advance of painting in the process. George Baselitz is one of the artists who should not be correlated with a particular movement but should be examined as an independent artist, hence through the second way. Instead of being dependent on a movement, George Baselitz is one of leader painters who contributed to the change and development of painting as an individual. A productive and taboo breaker painter of the German and Western art, George Baselitz is one of the rare artists who has lead the art with his life, versatility, poetics, manifests and sources that he was inspired from. His contributions to the national German art and neo-expressionism are also a part of his art. Baselitz draws attention to thinking styles of painting with his words “No painter does not look for a motif when working. This, would be a paradox. Because motif is inside the brain of the artist, thinking is inside that mechanism.” This way he points out that painting is not only reflected on the canvas, but also it is an intense mental preparation period in the background. It is also possible to follow from his manifests and poetics he wrote about what he thought of the mental background of the painting. In order to understand the Western art, and also the Turkish art, it is essential to comprehend artists like Baselitz and Baselitz himself, who was one of most prominent people of Modernism. This essay aims at portraying important factors that constructed the world of Baselitz and his art by giving information about his life and his art in an objective and scientific way
