Usability of Coriander Oil (Coriandrum sativum) as a Herbal Anesthetic on Fish#

Synthetic or plant-based anaestheticsare used in aquaculture for fish welfare and ease of operation. However, due to the accumulation of synthetic origin anaesthetics in the fish body, it may threaten both fish and consumer health. Therefore, interest in plant anaesthetics has been increasing in recent years. Clove oil is a herbal anaesthetics that is frequently used in aquaculture studies. Studies in literature are carried out about the anaesthetic’s effects of essential oils of different plant origin on fishes, except cloves. One of these oils is coriander oil (Coriandrum sativum). Coriander herb contains the active ingredient linalool, which is anesthetized in 50-70% of the main components. In this study, the usability of coriander oil as a herbal anaesthetics in aquaculture was reviewed.
