Background: This study aims to evaluate pre- andpostoperative quality of life of the patients who underwentcoronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.Methods: The study included a total of 195 patients (159males, 36 females; mean age 56.8±8.5 years; range, 32 to78 years) above 18 years of age who had no communicationproblem and underwent elective CABG in a training andresearch hospital in Istanbul. The quality of life wasmeasured using the Short-Form 36 (SF-36) preoperativelyand at six weeks and one year postoperatively.Results: Patients mean scores for sub-aspects of thequality of life were significantly increased at six weeks andone year postoperatively compared to preoperative values(p<0.001). Compared to preoperative period, the mostsignificant increases were in scores for social function,physical role, and changes in health status during thepreceding year at one year postoperatively.Conclusion: The quality of life of the patients increased inall aspects in the postoperative period.
