Variation analyses of temperature and precipitation indices in Antalya Region
The Mediterranean basin which is one of the area that most affected by climate change, temperatureincreases are experienced above the global average, especially in summer periods.Increases in severity and frequency of extreme weather events occur with increasing temperatures. In this study, changes in temperature and precipitation extremes between 1980-2011were analyzed on daily data that obtained for the Mediterranean Region-Antalya Area. 17temperature and 6 precipitation climate indices that identified by WMO and CLIVAR wereapplied to the temperature and precipitation data that the changepoint dates in homogeneitywere determined by RH test. Trends in extreme values were determined by the non-parametricKendall-based Sen Trend test and analyzes were examined with R-based ClimPACT software. The change in climate indices which are analyzed yearly, were evaluated in day, degree, percent,mm, mm/day and event. According to the obtained results, the changepoints dates forthe regional climate occurred in the early years of 1990 and 2010; while the average maximumtemperature values increased by 2.4 °C in general, the minimum temperature averageincreased by 4 °C, especially in coastal areas such as Alanya and Fethiye. While the frost andice days tended to decrease in the region, the length of the growing season which is importantin terms of agriculture, tends to increase. In terms of precipitation extremes, increasingtrends were determined in the coastal (especially Kale-Demre) and high areas (Elmalı) of theTeke peninsula where overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and it was determined that extremeprecipitation values contribute the most to the total precipitation. These changes which havea significant impact on settlements, agricultural areas and water resources in the region, haverequired the necessary adaptation and infrastructural works to be carried out.
