Human orf: Report of two cases

Orf veya ecthyma contagiosum, koyun ve keçi gibi hayvanların bir viral zoonotik hastalığıdır. İnsanlardaki tanımı ilk defa 1934’de Newson ve Cross tarafından yaplımıştır. Bütün hekimler, Orf’un heryerde görülebileceği konusunda uyanık olmalılar ve hayvanlarla temas sonucu oluşan hastalıkların ayırıcı tanısında göz önünde bulundurmalıdırlar. Ellerde ve kollardaki iyileşmesi gecikmiş Orf lezyonları nedeni ile lezyonların drenajı ve uzamış antibiyotik tedavileri gibi gereksiz girişimlere neden olabilir. Bulaşması veya komplikasyonların ortaya çıkması önlenmelidir. Hayvan kesimi sonrasında parmaklarda ortaya çıkan ve geç iyileşen piyodermi gibi lezyonların varlığında, orf akılda tutulmalıdır.

Orf or ecthyma contagiosum is a viral zoonosis of domesticated sheep and goats. It was described clinically in man for the first time in 1934 by Newson and Cross. All physicians should remain aware that human orf may occur anywhere and consider it in the differential diagnosis of cases with relevant animal exposure. Orf lesions with delayed healing on the hands and arms can be cause to unnecessary interventions such as drainage and prolonged antibacterial therapy. We should only try to prevent or heal the eventual complications except extraordinary situations. In the case with delayed healing pyodermia like lesion on the fingers after slaughtering activity, orf must be kept in mind.
