Russian folklorist Vladimir Propp devised and developed this method by studying folk tales and examining structural analyses. It was applied to a number of tales in the world. Every nation has formed their own tales because of different cultures and traditions. That's why, this method hasn't been applied to every country's tales as in their originals. It has also been applied to Turkish tales, and the common idea of the writers applying this method is that a structure is needed for Turkish folk tales. We tried to apply the functions of Propp's method to Karagöz play as it has elements similar to those of tales.
