Evaluation of Foreign Body Aspiration Cases
Aim: Especially in childhood, foreign body aspirations can be life-threatening, emergency and forensic medical practice are common situations. In this study, we aimed to examine the foreign body aspirations in the cases below 18 years of age.METHODS: There were evaluated onto the patients who were diagnosed with foreign body aspiration between 01.01.2014 and 31.12.2018 on the Radiology Clinic Image Archiving Communication Systems. The cases were examined according to age, sex and foreign body (food, metal and plastic) and asymptomatic localization. Results: A total of 108 patients (0-18 years of age) who met the study criteria were evaluated. A total of 67 cases of male and 41 female patients were female, mean age was 5.32 ± 6.12. It was determined that the most common foods were aspirated in the form of a mixture, and foods such as peanuts, walnuts, carrots and pomegranates were determined. Aspiration was observed in the cases most frequently in the 0-5 age group. Conclusion Foreign body aspirations are the cases that require urgent diagnosis and treatment. For this purpose, appropriate imaging methods should be used and suspected cases should be more careful. Foreign body aspirations are preventable. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the rate with family education especially in the age groups in the risk group.
