Analyses of the Intrahospital Consultations Which Were Sent From Medical Oncology Department to Other Clinics: Single Center Experience
Aim: In this present study, we aimed to identify and analyse most requested consultations which were sent from on- cology department to other clinics and we also aimed to emphasise and take attention that clinical settings of cancerdiseases are not only specific to oncology department but also should be considered systematically accompanied bythe help and need of the other medical clinics. Material and Methods: A total number of 596 consultations from 399 patients in oncology department were retro- spectively analysed in Diskapi Education and Research Hospital between January 2013 and July 2013. Results: Breast and colon cancer were the most frequent diagnosis among patients (29.1 % and 16.8 %, respective- ly). Radiology was the most frequently requested department for consultation in all patients (n: 94, 23.6 %). It was found in this study that, male patients were mostly consulted to Cardiology (p:0.002) and Pulmonary Diseases depart- ment (p:0.003), while female patients were frequently consulted to Physical Treatment and Rehabilitation (p:0.0001)and Endocrinology clinic (p:0.05). Consultations to Physical Treatment and Rehabilitation and Radiology department(22.4%) were more frequent among patients with breast cancer. On the other side, consultations to General Surgery(n:21, 24 %), Radiology (n:21, 24%) and Neurology (n:17, 20 %) was the most common in patients with colorectalcancer. Conclusion: Even though this results are due to differences in frequencies of diseases and their complications in bothsex and diagnosis groups, medical oncology is in close relationship with other clinic branches . As a result, malignantdiseases should be taken into account systemically and multidisciplinary.
