Is there any correlation between preoperative anxiety and postthoracotomy pain?
Objective: In present study, we aimed to investigate correlation between preoperative anxiety level and postopera-tive pain scores in patients who were receieved intravenous patient controlled analgesia after thoracotomies.Material and Methods: After the hospital ethical committee and patient s approval, study was performed in 30patients who underwent elective thoracotomies. The patient s anxiety level was determined based on State-TraitAnxiety Inventory and their pain score s was evaluated according to Visuel Analog Scale. Results: Anxiety level was 56,5±4,6, and their anxiety scores were between 46 and 64. Anxiety level was mediumin 24 (80%) patients and high in 6 (20%) patients (p>0,05). There was no statistically signifcant correlation betweenthe preoperative anxiety scores and postoperative visuel analog scale scores (p>0,05).Conclusion: Our study results are shown that there was no correlation between preoperative anxiety scores and post-operative visuel analog scale scores in elective thoracotomy patients who were taken intravenous patient controlledanalgesia.
