The Frequency of Tympanosclerosis And Myringosclerosis In Chronic İnflammatory Middle Ear Diseases: CT Findings
Aim: The purpose was to find the coincidence frequency of middle ear chronic inflamatory diseases and intratym- panic tympanosclerosis and myringosclerosis. Methods: The presence of intratympanic tympanosclerosis and myringosclerosis in the CT s of 156 patient was in- vestigated. The cases were separated into three groups according to the surgical and pathological results as followed, chronic otitis media, cholesteatoma and chronic otitis media with cholesteatoma. The distribution of tympanosclero- sis was investigated according to patient groups. Results: All of the patients were operated and 76 cases diagnosed with chronic otitis media, 40 cases with cholest- eatoma and 40 cases with chronic otitis media with cholesteatoma. Taken together, tympanosclerosis and myringo- sclerosis were seen in 15.8 % of chronic otitits media cases, in 20 % of cholesteatoma cases and in 22.5 % of caseswith chronic otitis media with cholesteatoma. The frequency of tympanosclerosis according to the patient groups isnot different (p>0.05). Conclusion: Intratympanic tympanosclerosis and myringosclerosis can be seen together with all of the chronic in- flammatory diseases of the middle ear. If cholesteatoma or otitis media is detected in CT tympaneosclerosis should beinvestigated and vise versa.
