Bu çalışmada, Afşin’de bir başka deyişle antik Arabissos kentinde ele geçen ve bugün Maraş Müzesi’nde bulunan, biri erkek diğeri kadın, iki heykelin stilistik ve ikonografik analizi yapılmıştır. Erkek heykeli stilistik açıdan M. S. 2. yüzyılın içine tarihlendirilmektedir. Kadın heykeli de, erkek heykeli ile benzer stilistik ve teknik özelliklere sahip olması nedeniyle, M. S. 2. yüzyıla tarihlendirilmiştir. Her iki heykel de stilistik açıdan bazı yerel özellikler taşımaktadır. Anadolu’nun Roma Dönemi’ne ait heykeltraşlık eserleri büyük oranda yayınlanmadığı için, özellikle yerel örnekler söz konusu olduğunda, tarihlendirme problemleri bulunmaktadır. Bu nedenle burada incelediğimiz örneklerin literatüre kazandırılması, dönemin heykeltraşlık sanatının daha iyi anlaşılmasına katkı sağlaması açısından önem taşımaktadır

This study offers an iconographic and stylistic analysis of the two statues, one male and the other one female, previously found in Afşin and now exhibited in the Maraş Museum. The male statue dates to the 2nd century A.D. The female statue is also considered to belong to the same period because of its similar stylistic and technical features. Both statues carry traces of some local characteristics. It is difficult to date such works of art, especially the local ones, since statuary works of Anatolia from Roman Period have not been published to a large extent. Thus, the samples we examine in this study are important when we consider the need to understand the statuary of the period in question.
