Mit terimini çok farklı şekillerde tanımlamak mümkündür. Fakat Dinler tarihi açısından mit kutsala dair öykü ya da anlatıdır. Bu nedenle de Eliade ve Pettazzoni gibi dinler tarihçileri ve Vico, Nietzsche, Tillich ve Ricoeur gibi düşünürlere göre mit gerçektir. Ancak modern dünya açısından mitler, safsata, cehalet, illüzyon ve yanlışlıkla eşdeğerdir. Oysa mitler anlamsız ve faydasız masallar değillerdir. Onlar gerçek anlatılardır ve ancak şiirsel bir anlatıma sahiptirler. Bu makalede mit, tarih ve gerçeklik sorunu tartışılacaktır.

The term of Myth is possible to define in very different ways. But, myth is sacred story or sacred narrative for the history of religions. Therefore, myth is true according to the historians of religions, such as Eliade and Pettazzoni and according to the thinkers such as Vico, Nieztsche, Tillich ve Ricoeur. On the other hand, myths are equated with fallacy, ignorance, illusion and error for the modern world. Myths are not meaningless and useless tales. They are real/true narrative. However, they have poetic expressions. This paper examines myth and the problem of history and reality/truth.
