Burada anlatılan öyküler pek çok şerhe konu olmuş, bunlardan bazıları modern çağda da ele alınmıştır. Bu makalede, Mesnevî’nin ilk hikâyesi olan Pâdişâhla Câriyenin Hikâyesi geleneksel ve modern bakışlar ışığında yorumlanmaya çalışılmakta, hikâyede sembolize edilen tasavvufî terimlerin Mevlânâ tarafından ortaya konulan sülûk esaslarıyla bağlantıları da aranmaktadır.

Symbolic expression is first of the basic ways which sufis used to describe high truth. The Mathnavî of Mawlânâ contains abundant material on this subject. The stories told in this book was explained very much and some of these have been delt with in the modern era. In this article the first story of Mathnawî “The Story of The Sultan and his Concubine” is tried to interpret in the light of traditional and modern comments and also to search for relationships between the essential mystical terms which symbolized in the story and the mystical manner of Mawlânâ.
