PORTFOLIO APPLICATION FROM STUDENTS’ PERSPECTIVE: SELFEVALUATION AND FILE COVER VISUAL ANALYSIS

The aim of this study is to examine the portfolio evaluation files from the eyes of the students and to reveal their applicability. In the study, a case study approach from qualitative research was adopted. The study was conducted with a total of 30 students studying in a secondary school in the province of Manisa in Turkey in the 2018-2019 academic year. The students who make up the study group are 7th grade students who have practiced creating a portfolio file throughout a unit. The data were collected with self-evaluation cards and file cover images containing the opinions of the students on the use of the portfolio evaluation file and analyzed by content analysis method. According to the results of the study, the use of portfolio evaluation file enabled students to gain knowledge and skills. Another output obtained from the study is the determination that the portfolio application carried out is considered important by the students. In addition, the results of the study showed that the concepts, formulas, facts and events related to the science course and the subjects it included were mostly reflected in the student drawings on the covers of the portfolio files. In addition, the portfolio application contributed to the development of selfevaluation, self-expression and design/creativity skills through their eyes.
