Mimarlıkta bir karşı duruş tavrı olarak anarchitecture'

Mekân kavramı, geleneksel anlatılardan başlayarak, çok farklı şekillerde kavramsallaştırılmıştır. Tarihsel süreçte, düşünce sistemlerindeki her bir kırılma noktasına paralel olarak dönü- şüm geçiren mekân anlayışı, böylelikle farklı mimarlık yakla- şımları içinde kendine yer bulmuştur. Bu çalışmada, 1900lü yılların son çeyreğinde ortaya çıkan ve genelgeçer mimarlık kavrayışına eleştirel bir tutum sergileyen anarchitecture yaklaşımı, bu alanda çalışmaları bulunan üç isim üzerinden ele alınmıştır. Bu bağlamda çalışma iki kısımda ilerler. İlk bö- lümde, anarchitecture kapsamında pek çok çalışması bulu- nan Gordon Matta-Clarkın gerçekleştirdiği enstalasyonlar ile ortaya koyduğu mekân kavrayışı ve bu alanda yıkmaya çalış- tığı temel kabullere değinilmiş; ardından, kavramı daha ku- ramsal bir perspektifte ele alan Lebbeus Woodsun kavramı açıklarken ortaya koyduğu özgür mekan anlatısı incelenmiş ve son olarak kavramı ilkel toplumların mekânı üzerinden inceleyen Brian Heagneynin anarchitecture anlayışına yer verilmiştir. İkinci bölümde ise, aynı başlık altında toplanan bu yaklaşımların mekân anlayışları çözümlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışmanın amacı, anarchitecture yaklaşımının günümüz mekân kavrayışına sağladığı katkıların ortaya konması ve tar- tışılmasıdır.

Anarchitecture as an oppositional position in architecture

Beginning from the earliest traditional tales, the notion of space has been conceptualized in a variety of ways. Throughout his- tory, these conceptualisations have undergone transformation on a parallel with turning points in thought systems, and thus space has found a place for itself in all varying architectural approaches. In the first part of this study, the notion of anar- chitecture, which emerged in the last quarter of the 1900s to fervidly criticize the de facto understanding of architecture, is approached through the works of three distinguished research- ers in this field. The first section evaluates both the compre- hension of space expressed in the installations performed by Gordon Matta-Clark, the renowned artist who has substantial works on anarchitecture, and the fundamental principles he sought to destroy. This is followed by the free space concept of Lebbeus Woods, who is well-known for approaching anar- chitecture in a more theoretical manner. The final section of the first part of the study examines the understanding of Brian Heagney, who has explored anarchitecture through the con- cept of space in primitive communities. In the second part of the study, an attempt is made at analyzing the understanding of space of all these different approaches. The objective of this work is to evaluate and emphasize the contributions of anarchi- tecture to our present-day understanding of space.
