Meniscus injuries and surgical treatments

A better understanding of meniscal functions and repair ability has led to treating a meniscus injury by repair, instead of excision. Patient’s age, activity level, expectations, profession, structure of torn meniscus, accompa-nied injuries, localisation, type, longevity and stability of tear must be taken into consideration while planning the repair of a meniscal lesion. For avascular zone tears, procedures which promote healing have to be added to classical repair techniques.
