Meskheti region is located in Georgia. Meskhetian Turks (Ahiska Turks) were exiled from their main land in 1944. In 1992 an act passed in Turkey accepting Meskhetian Turks as immigrants and granted them various rights (Law on Acception and Habitation of the Meskhetian Turks). One of the right that was given was acceptance to the Turkish Citizenship. Today Meskhetian Turks are not granted the citizenship right as the application deadline defined by the act expired however according to Turkish citizenship law, Meskhetian Turks can still be granted citizenship. Meskhetian Turks are Turkish in origin therefore they can benefit from the law that allows people with Turkish origin to work in Turkey.
