Jean Paul Rome's keen interest in Central Asia's history of culture and religion began in the 1950s. In those years his engagement became so intense that he could not resist the temptation to identify himself with the Central Asian Turkish culture anymore and went so far as to claim that he was actually belonging to that region. The present investigation on "The Religious Beliefs of the Seventh and Eighth-century Orkhun Turks" that we are publishing here deals with all of his enquiries pertaining to the years of the 1950s and afterwards.
