Ortega y Gasset ve Çeviri

1937 yılında Ortega y Gasset çeviri üzerinde bir dizi makale yayımladı. Ona göre çeviri, dilden çok sözle ilgili bir olguydu. Mükemmel bir çevirinin imkansızlığını kabul etmesine rağmen, insanoğlunun doğasında her şeyi olabilecek en iyi şekilde yapma dürtüsü olduğu kanısındaydı. Çeviri anadili kadar iletişim kuramaz; zaten anadilimizle bile biz her şeyi söyleyemeyiz. Ortega, çevirinin disiplin olarak parlak bir gelecek olduğunu de düşünür.

In 1937 Ortega y Gasset published a series of articles about translation. According to him the translation was a phenomenon related to speech more than to language. Although he admitted the impossibility of a perfect translation in his opinion it is in the nature of the human being making anything as perfect as possible. Even when the translation does not communicate as much as the source language does, the fact is that we are not able to say everything even in our mother tongue. Ortega also thinks that there is a brilliant future to translation as a discipline in itself.
