Kısımda ana hatları çizilen entelektüel duruma bir cevap olarak modern doğal hukuk geleneği üzerine yorum getiriyor. 3. Kısım ve sonrası aynı entelektüel duruma İskoç tepkisini araştırıyor ancak bunu yaparken de İskoç teorisinin doğal hukuk düşüncesinin bir kolu olarak kaldığını ileri sürüyor.

The opening section of my paper comments in very general terms on European thought during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. My aim in this part of my paper is to provide background. Section 2 comments on the modern natural law tradition as a response to the intellectual situation sketched in section 1. Section 3 onwards explores Scottish responses to the same intellectual situation, but proposes that Scottish theory stands to one side of natural law thinking.
