In this study Brentano explains interpretations alleged on the term of active intellect (nous poiētikos) playing an important role in the philosophy of Aristotle under three-period classification. As it will be understood from the text, this term has been reconsidered both in the tradition of antiquity and medieval philosophy and in the western philosophy with various explanations once again. Such a study is of capital importance due to showing deficient sides and validity of these explanations made on of nous poiētikos
