Pregnancy and COVID-19

The COVID-19 infection, which first appeared in China in December 2019 and rapidly affected the world, was declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization. Although COVID-19 generally affects older individuals, it can also be seen in pregnant women and newborn babies. The clinical symptoms of the virus in pregnant women are similar to those of adults. Limited data on COVID-19 in pregnancy are mostly related to women who were affected by the virus in the third trimester. The disease causes anxiety because pregnant women are in the highrisk group for respiratory infections. In light of available information, this study aimed to summarize the effects of COVID-19 on the mother and fetus during pregnancy, the birth and postpartum periods, the transmission risks from the mother to baby, and important points in nursing care.
