The Importance of Quantitative Factors at Identifying Glass Ceiling Problem: A Study on ISE100 Index Firms

Discrimination that women face in advanc ing up the job ladder into high level management positions is called the glass ceiling. Calculating the ratio of women on firm boards is one of the methods used to identify the presence of gender discrimination and glass ceiling. The study argues that using only quantitative methods to identify the magnitude of glass ceiling problem can be mislead ing and qualitative factors should be taken into account to make better judgments about the issue. In this context ISE100 firms are stud ied and us ing qualitative factors such as legal system, ownership concentration and social culture provedto be important determinants of the glass ceiling problem.recommendations for future stud ies on the topic.
