Özdenetimin sporcuların performans ve kaygı düzeylerindeki rolü

Özdenetim becerileri bilişsel, duygusal ve davranış süreçlerini denetim altında tutabilir. Özdenetimin öğrenilmesi, kişilerin öz-düzenleyici bilişüstü beceriler geliştirerek, zihinsel yeteneklerini başarıya dönüştürmesini sağlar. Başarılı sporcular, kendilerini izleyerek, mevcut durumları ile ulaşmak istedikleri amaç arasındaki farkı tespit ederler ve başarılarını arttırmak için denetleyebilirler. Bu konuda yapılan araştırmalar, özdenetimi yüksek olan oyuncuların, uygulama ve rekabetten faydalanarak, performans düzeylerini geliştirdiklerini belirtmektedir. Bu çalışma iki sporcunun (eskrimci ve yüzücü) bir sezon boyunca katıldıkları özdenetim geliştirici programın performanslarındaki rolünü araştırmaktadır. Çalışma süresince genç sporcular özdenetimde önemli olan amaç belirleme, olumlu düşünme ve iç-konuşma, konsantrasyon, öz-kontrol ve zihinde canlandırma olmak üzere beş becerinin geliştirilmesine yönelik bir programa tabi tutulmuştur. Araştırmanın sonucu kaygı düzeylerinde azalma olduğunu, performanslarının ise müdahale programı öncesinden daha iyi olduğunu göstermiştir.

The role of self regulation on the performance and an xiety levels of athletes

Self-regulation involves the control of cognition, emotion, and behavior. Self-regulated learning refers to self-directed processes that help learners to convert their mental abilities into performance skills. Successful athletes self-monitor; they detect discrepancies between their current and potential level of achievement and self-regulate their efforts to improve performance. Recent studies suggest that players who score high on self-regulation benefit more from practice and competition, which may explain the differences in performance level. This study reports the impact of a season-long training program based on self- regulation on two young athletes, a swimmer and a fencer. The two reported cases were part of a study in which the young athletes were exposed to five different psychological skills: goal setting, positive thinking and self-talk, concentration and routines, arousal regulation techniques, and imagery. The results indicated decrease in anxiety levels. The overall performances of the athletes were better after the training program.
