Wıllıam James'in Çoğulcu Evren Perspektifinde İdealizm Eleştirisi

Felsefe tarihi boyunca evrenin anlaşılması amacıyla geliştirilen farklı düşünce sistemlerinden realizm ile idealizmin farklı, çoğu zaman karşıt arka planları günümüzde dahi pek çok tartışmanın kaynağını teşkil etmiştir. Tümel ve aşkın çerçeveden bakışı, bilginin nesnesinin düşünce faaliyetine bağlı olduğunu kabul eden idealizm soyut alandan hareketle somut alanın belirlenmesine olanak verir. Realizm somut alanda kalmakla beraber, bu alanın özneden bağımsız bir gerçekliğe sahip olduğunu varsayar. Ancak farklı alt dalları içeren iki düşünce sisteminin evreni açıklamaya yönelik farklı yaklaşım metotlarına karşın bunlardan birinin mutlak surette yanlışlanması, doğası gereği felsefe için olanaksızdır.William James, saf idealizm ve saf realizmin, varlığın önceden verilmiş parametrelerle açıklanmasını öncelediği için güncel problemlerin çözümüne katkı sunmada sorunlar içerdiğini savunur. Onun klasik metafizik yerine, pratik, somut ve deneyimsel temelleri olan bir metafizik yapma biçimini benimsediği açıkça görülür. Çalışmamız, James’in çoğulcu bir evren teorisi oluşturma çabalarında idealizm ve realizme yönelik eleştirilerini ve pragmatik bir çerçevede önerdiği saf deneyim teorisini ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır.

William James' Critics of Idealism From The Perspective of Pluralistic Universe

By postulating different and even opposite propositions, realism and idealism, which have been among thinking systems to understand the universe throughout the history of philosophy, have constituted the source of many debates even in today’s world. The idealism, by recognizing universal and transcendental framework as well as thatthe objects of knowledge depend on the activity of mindallows determining the tangible through abstract space. Although staying in tangible space, realism presumes that this space has a reality –free of subject. Yet, philosophy, by its nature, cannot falsify either two different thought system which has certain methodological approaches.William James argues that pure idealism and pure realism constitute some problems to contribute solution to contemporary problems since they prioritize explanation of entity with pre-given parameters. It is clear that he adopts a form of metaphysics basing on practical, tangible, and experiential essentials rather than classical metaphysics. This study aims to reveal William James’ critics on idealism and realism regarding constructing a pluralistic universe theory and pure experience which has been proposed in a pragmatic framework.
