Türkiye en önemli şark tipi tütün üreticisidir ve şark tipi tütün üretiminde %35.8'lik pay ile dünyada ilk sırada yer almaktadır. Diğer şark tipi tütün üreten ülkelerde dikim alanları daralırken Türkiye'de uygulanan politikalara bağlı olarak dalgalanmalar göstermektedir. Yaklaşık 600.000 üretici aile yılda 280.000 hektar alanda yaklaşık 260.000 ton tütün üretmektedir. Tütünün Türkiye toplam tarımsal ihracatındaki payı %18,1'dir. Türkiye tütün ithalatı ise yaklaşık 35.000 ton kadardır.

Turkey is one of the largest tobacco producer countries having a share of 35,8 % in the production of oriental tobacco in the world. The planting area of oriental tobacco in Turkey varies due to constantly changing agricultural policies while planting area of oriental tobacco in the other countries has been decreasing in the recent years. There are 600.000 families involved in tobacco production in Turkey and approximately 260.000 tones tobacco is produced at 280.000 hectares. The share of tobacco export in Turkey's total agricultural export is 18,1 %. On the other hand, Turkey imports about 35.000 tones of tobacco.
