THE RELATION BETWEN SAVINGS AND ECONOMIC GROWTH IN TURKEY: A BOUNDS TEST APPROACH

Relations between savings and economic growth are analyzed by growth theories started with classical growth theories. In this paper the impact of savings on economic growth is examined for Turkey, using the annual data from 1975 to 2012. The impact of the savings on economic growth was analyzed with the bound test approach to co-integration developed by Pesaran et al. (2001). According to results of the bounds test cointegration relationship between savings and economic growth is detected. At the same time there is a positive impact of savings on economic growth in long run and short run. The importance of the results is that savings stimulates economic growth
