Effect on student success of concept mapping support teaching of matter and its properties

The aim of this study is to measure the effect of concept mapping as an educational tool on the perception of the concept matter and its properties of the high school first year students. The study was carried out on two classes arbitrarily selected in Anatolian Technical High School in Ankara. One of the classes was chosen as the control and the other as the experimental group. Both groups were subjected to a scientific process skill, logical thinking, and pre knowledge test on matter conceptual test as the pre test. The same matter tests were employed as the post test in order to assess the success rate of both approaches. The data obtained from these tests were evaluated by the t-test and ANCOVA analysis. Data were evaluated at 0.05 significance levels. The results revealed that the use of concept mapping is much more effective.
