Representation of everyday life issues in the styles of spoken language becomes more common in handwritten anthologies (mecmua) in the 18th century Ottoman literature. These literary pieces deal often with topics, issues and literary trends like controversial coffee and tobacco use, struggle and strife between members of tarikah orders and conservative scholars, and composing chronograms on the new events with varying interpretations. All these features turn handwritten anthologies into a forum of competing ideas.
