Effects of vitamin E and 17 B estradiol on plasma lipid and lipid peroxidation levels in ovariectomized and diabetic rats

In this study, the effects of 17-β estradiol (E2) and vitamin E on the plasma, glucose, lipid profile and lipid peroxidation levels in ovariectomized and diabetic rats were investigated. In study, 70 female Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into 7 groups. Group 1: Control group, Group 2: Ovariectomy + diabetes, Group 3: Ovariectomy + diabetes + E2, Group 4: Ovariectomy + diabetes + E 2 + vitamin E, Group 5: Ovariectomy, Group 6: Ovariectomy + E2, and Group 7: Ovariectomy + E2 + vitamin E. Sixty of rats were ovariectomized. After fifteen days from ovariectomy, to induce diabetes, rats were injected with streptozotocin (STZ) intraperitonellly (I.P.) at dose of, 45 mg/kg body weight. Following the formation of diabetes, E2 (40 μg/kg/day) was administered subcutan (S.C.) to groups 3, 4, 6 and 7; additionally, vitamin E (100 mg/kg/day) was administered I.P. only to groups 4 and 7 for a period 28 days. According to the findings of this study, due to the effect of ovariectomy, glucose, total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), very low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (VLDL-C), triglyceride (TG), and plasma and erythrocyte malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were found to increased (p
