Investigation of Seroprevalence of Dirofilaria immitis, Ehrlichia canis, Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma spp in Dogs in Erzurum Province
The aim of this study was to investigate the seroprevalence of Dirofilaria immitis, Ehrlichia canis, Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma spp, in dogs living in Erzurum province. The study material consisted of 250 dogs (140 female and 110 males) in Erzurum province. Blood samples were tested by the chromatographic immunoassay test kit for the qualitative detection of D. immitis antigen, antibody against Anaplasma spp, B. burgdorferi and E. canis. Results indicated that antibody against B. burgdorferi and E. canis were not detected. Antibody against Anaplasma spp and D. immitis antigen were detected in 2 of 250 (%0.8) and 11 of 250 dogs (%4.4) respectively. When dogs with antigen presence against Dirofilaria immitis were evaluated by their age, the highest positivity was found in the ˃3 years old group (8%) and the difference between the age groups was not significant (P˃0.05). The presence of antigen against Dirofilaria immitis was 7.3% in male dogs and 1.2% in female dogs (P≤0.5). Additionally, when dogs with antigen presence against D. immitis were evaluated according to breed, it was determined that the highest positivity (25%) were in Husky breed dogs and the difference between breeds was also significant (P≤0.05). According to the data obtained from this study, it was concluded that some vector-borne diseases such as Anaplasmosis and Dirofilariosis were seen in dogs in Erzurum province and protection and control measures should be taken for the eradication of these diseases.
